गुरुर ब्रह्मा गुरुर विष्णु गुरुर देवो महेश्वरः। गुरुर साक्षात परब्रह्म, तस्मै श्री गुरवे नमः॥
Guru Purnima, a festival celebrated with reverence and devotion across India and other parts of the world, holds a significant place in the hearts of many. This festival, dedicated to spiritual and academic teachers, emphasizes the importance of the guru (teacher) in one’s life. Celebrated on the full moon day (Purnima) in the Hindu month of Ashadha (June-July), Guru Purnima is a time to honour and express gratitude to those who impart wisdom and knowledge.
The roots of Guru Purnima can be traced back to ancient times and are deeply embedded in Indian culture and spirituality. The festival is believed to commemorate the birth anniversary of Maharishi Vyasa, the legendary author of the Mahabharata, and the compiler of the Vedas. Vyasa is considered one of the greatest gurus in Hindu tradition, and his contributions to Indian literature and philosophy are immense. Hence, Guru Purnima is also known as Vyasa Purnima. In Buddhist tradition, Guru Purnima is celebrated to honour Lord Buddha, who gave his first sermon on this day at Sarnath after attaining enlightenment. The day is observed by paying homage to Buddha and following his teachings. The Jain community also observes Guru Purnima in honour of their spiritual teachers and mentors who guide them on the path of righteousness.
The Faculty and Staff Members of BGS Institute of Hotel Management celebrated Guru Poornima by paying respects to His Divine Soul Jagadguru Bhairavaikya Padmabhushan Sri Sri Sri Dr. Balagangadharanatha Maha Swamiji, Founder President, 71st Pontiff of Sri Adichunchanagiri Matt with great humility, grace and enthusiasm. Following the footprints of our pathfinder who believed in the thought that education is one of the important factors in the development of the individual and the nation, our respected Principal, Chef Eabin Mathew shared his precious thoughts on the joyful occasion and the students as well as teachers sang bhajans in memory of Parampoojya Mahaswamiji.
