WORLD TOURISM DAY CELEBRATIONS 27 SEPTEMBER 2024
On September 27, BGS Institute of Hotel Management commemorated World Tourism Day with a thought-provoking Seminar. The engaging presentations sparked lively discussions among students, faculty, and industry professionals who attended the Event. The seminar underscored the significance of responsible tourism practices, leveraging technology for sustainable development, and upholding human rights.
Mr. Srikantan Raghavan, Senior General Manager, Applications and Processes, Tamara Leisure Experiences, highlighted the impact of Technology on the Tourism Industry, emphasizing innovations like AI, Virtual Reality, and sustainable travel platforms. In his hour-long talk on – The Digital Revolution in Tourism: How Technology is Transforming the Travel Experience – Srikantan pointed out how technology is reshaping the Tourism Industry by changing the way travellers plan, book, and experience their journeys. Technology also plays a significant role in enhancing the experience of businesses.
Prof. Ragini, Head of Department – Tourism – Surana College (Autonomous), Bangalore discussed the critical issue of human rights protection in tourism, focusing on child protection, cultural preservation, and fair labour practices. In her talk on – “Ethical Dilemmas in Tourism: Balancing Economic Benefits with Human Rights Protection – emphasized the challenge of balancing the economic benefits that tourism brings to communities with the protection of human rights and ensuring the well-being of local populations.
Besides, this several engaging and intellectually stimulating Competitions such as Essay Competition, Quiz, and Extempore Competitions among others were also organized. The objective of these activities was to enhance the understanding of the participants on the importance of tourism in fostering cultural exchange, sustainability and peace.
On this World Tourism Day, BGSIHM reaffirms its commitment to support education in sustainable tourism, and foster knowledgeable, socially conscious hospitality professionals, equipped to navigate the complexities of the modern tourism and hospitality landscape.
