INDUSTRIAL VISIT TO DOMAINE SULA VINEYARDS, RAMANAGARA, BANGALORE
An industrial visit to a vineyard serves as an educational experience for students, providing them with practical exposure to viticulture, wine making, and the hospitality industry. This visit to Domaine Sula Vineyards was designed to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world applications in the wine industry. A visit to a vineyard is a valuable learning experience that enriches students’ understanding of the wine industry, offering practical exposure to Viticulture, Hospitality, and Tourism Management. Such visits help students gain firsthand industry knowledge, fostering their professional growth and career readiness.
The II and IV Semester BHM Students of BGS Institute of Hotel Management embarked on an educational visit to Domaine Sula Vineyards in Channapatna on 11 February 2025. This visit was part of their curriculum to gain firsthand experience in viticulture, wine production, and the hospitality aspects associated with vineyard operations. Domaine Sula, an extension of the renowned Sula Vineyards, is known for its sustainable viticulture and premium wine production.
Objective of the Visit :
- To understand the vineyard’s cultivation and grape-growing process.
- To learn about the wine making process from harvesting to bottling.
- To explore the hospitality and tourism aspects of vineyard management.
- To experience wine tasting and gain knowledge about different wine varieties.
- To interact with industry professionals and understand career opportunities in the wine industry.
Wine Tasting Session
The highlight of the visit was the wine tasting session conducted by the vineyard’s sommelier. The students were introduced to the nuances of wine appreciation, including identifying different types of wines, understanding aromas, flavours, and textures, and learning about food and wine pairing principles. The session provided valuable sensory training and helped students develop an appreciation for the craft of winemaking.
Domaine Sula Vineyards also serves as a significant wine tourism destination. The students explored the visitor’s lounge, tasting rooms, and boutique retail space. Discussions with the hospitality team shed light on: the role of vineyard tourism in India’s hospitality sector, event management opportunities, such as wine festivals and private gatherings, Customer service strategies to enhance the guest experience. The visit to Domaine Sula Vineyards was an enriching experience for the students of BGS Institute of Hotel Management. It provided invaluable insights into the viticulture and wine industry, enhancing their theoretical knowledge with practical exposure. The students gained a deeper appreciation for wine craftsmanship and its role in the hospitality sector. This educational excursion not only broadened their understanding but also inspired many to consider careers in wine production, tourism, and hospitality management.
